This book is spilt into two parts, one where the setting is between the two girls in Pakistan, where the characters are younger and the second part where they are much older and reside in London.
Personally for me, i preferred the first part of the book much more and loved to see the exploration of their friendship, the vivid detail of culture and how many questions it provoked about friendship. It was extremely heartwarming.
However, i did struggle reading the second half of the book and found that i wasn’t really that interested. I also didn’t like the ending too much as i felt it dragged. They, Maryam and Zahra, were clearly in very different parts of their lives now, and the friendship didn’t feel authentic anymore. I think that the plot of the book perhaps didn’t fully cover what the book was really about as i imagined something that was a little more fulfilling and powerful but in comparison this paled. I still thoroughly enjoyed a lot of the book! But i do think that some parts were a little dull.
