A grieving father, Alfie, wakes one night to find his twin daughters at the edge of his bed claiming that there's a man in their room. It's only been nine months since their mother died so they are unsettled and Alfie assumes they've just had a nightmare. In the days that follow, the girls start referring to someone called Black Mamba. Is it just an imaginary friend or something far more sinister? Alfie is struggling to cope with it all so he turns to his sister-in-law Julia for help as she is a psychotherapist.
This was a fantastic story which covers some really dark themes such as grief and tragedy. I found the twins so creepy yet so intriguing! It felt quite scary in places as the house it is set in has a very dark past. I do love to read a gothic horror every now and again, this one was very atmospheric and chilling. There is also a romance element to it between Alfie and Julia as they navigate through dealing with their own grief and bringing up the twins.
For a debut novel I thought this was brilliant and I would certainly look out for any future novels by this author.
