A well-written horror novel. The book follows the lives of the Hart House residents/ex-residents; a recently widowed father, his two twin daughters who claim to have a new 'imaginary friend' called Black Mamba, and his wife's sister the psychotherapist.

The book is written from the perspective of the father and his wife's sister. Throughout, the reader is invited into the family's private lives, and realize that there's more to this family than meets the eye.

Filled with ambiguity, suspense, and a subtle sense that something is not right, it hooks you in right from the start. Throughout the novel, we question whether Black Mamba is truly just an 'imaginary friend', just a coping mechanism for their mother's death - or whether it is something much more sinister. The plot twists and turns, and as soon as you think you have reached a reasonable explanation for the strange happenings at Hart House, another twist reveals itself.

Overall, a very good read.
