I feel like we see the scary twins and imaginary buddy cliché a lot in horror, but when done correctly, it can still spook me out, like it was in this one! There were a few instances in this that made me nervous and gave me the creeps. I also appreciate mourning as a topic in horror since it gives an air of unreliability to the characters, which is something else I liked about this. Not only were these aspects of the story wonderful, but we rapidly learn that there is a second plotline centred on the mother's relatives. We get peeks of their mother and aunt's childhood, and we begin to detect a pattern. This second plot featured some of my favourite horror cliches, so I was quite interested to see how the stories would come together. It goes without saying that this did not disappoint! I will add that the tempo was a touch wrong in places. I couldn't always figure out the sequence of events. I don't believe this had a significant negative impact on the plot; it simply gave me the impression of being lost a few times. Also worth noting is that the ending (which I absolutely adored) is unclear, which I know a lot of people don't like, so it's worth mentioning! \s
Overall, Black mamba pleasantly impressed me.
