The start of the book gives a hint of what's to come, the atmospheric language and the authors time building the scene gives an eerie feeling.
Are the children's experiences real or just dreams, why have they stopped happening, was it a faze or are they keeping secrets? Is it a dangerous prowler looking to take and harm the children? Is it something to d with their mum passing away? Could it be related to school and what they have been learning? After all imaginary friends are common, should they be something to worry about?
Alfie has enough to deal with, after the death of his wife and the complex situation with the house and his mother in law without having to deal with the mysterious 'Black Mamba'. His sister in law is a family therapist, surely she will be able to offer some advice, but does he really want to admit that they are going through issues, he doesn't want to seem like a bad parent. But does Alfie really want to except the presence of 'Black Mamba' in his house.
