The story begins nine months after the sudden and tragic death of Pippa, who is the mother of twin girls and the wife of Alfie. Pippa was also a twin and her sister is Julia - who is a psychotherapist. At the beginning of the book, the chapters are stemmed with mystery as to who has awoken the girls one night. The presence that only the girls can see, they call Black Mumba and there is a tension as to what he means to the family. The family are coming to terms with their grief and trying to carry on life at Hart house, the family home. The family home is pivotal to the story along with all the relationships between the family members.
I would be keen to read another book by this author as I liked the writing style and the story is a enjoyable combination of horror/supernatural and thriller, which to me kept me interested and I found it a real page turner and quick pleasurable read.
