This book was a great read, with every chapter moving the story forward.

Alfie is a widower, left with twin girls (Cassia and Sylvia) who are all trying to navigate the grief process together. Alfie is not doing well, turning to drink to overcome the loneliness.

Whilst the girls seem to be handling it better, they start talking about 'Black Mamba' a man in their room at night who is able to shape shift and takes them on adventures. It's assumed he is an imaginary friend who slowly becomes more prominent in their lives.

Julia, Alfie's deceased wife's twin comes to help with the girls, and as a psychotherapist is able to work with them to find out what's happening.

And that is the key.

As a reader you are never 100% sure what is happening which is where the clever writing comes in. Until the last page you are left wondering ...

It's wonderfully creepy as well as moving.
