Received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

From the opening line we are introduced to an Albanian surname is a Scottish environment, immediately posing the questions “how did she get here?” - from the title and cover of the book it’s fair to assume here journey here has not been filled with joy. Affi is clearly nervous and untrusting in her surroundings and there’s immediately a sense of being trapped.

The 4th in a series of DS Max Craigie crime novels goes on to investigate human trafficking and a leak within a corrupt police force.

This is not a genre I would ordinarily choose, but I found it engaging and would recommend it to readers who are a fan of the crime / mystery-solving style. Thankfully it’s not written with strong Scottish dialect which I personally find quite irritating to read, it’s my preference to have it written in standard English and you can add your own Scottish accent when you read it
