Blood Runs Cold is by Neil Lancaster and is a new author for me. The plot is complex and dark with great character's.
From the opening the main character Affi Smith is a vulnerable trafficked young girl being used to move drugs - not a plotline I would choose normally but I was intrigued to understand this awful world. I was pleased to see she was saved and fostered by a lovely couple and doing well in Scotland until she is suddenly grabbed while out running.
The story follows DS Max Craigie and his partner DC Janie Calder, amongst others, who team up with several agencies working in Scotland to find Affi and other trafficked girls who have also gone missing. It becomes clear that there is a leak in the team who is feeding information to the Albania crime boss and Toka the madam in charge of the brothels using these girls.
This is the 4th book in the series but that wasn't a problem and I plan to read more.
