this was my 1st Neil Lancaster book, i don't think you need to read the previous books in the series to follow the story (this is book 4 in the series) but i definitely want to read the others, what starts as a dark story of Affi as a young girl being human trafficked, she is rescued and has a good life with her foster parents along with a promising athletics career, until she becomes a teenager and is kidnapped, this then turns into a much bigger and darker crime story, its a real page turner, i love the characters and the banter within the police force, some of the things that the girls went though is hard and heart breaking to read but is kind of the underlying plot with the corruption taking a bigger focus making it a less mentally draining, i love the random, Scottish and Yorkshire phrases that creep in making the characters feel more real, i am a big fan of barney,
