Ian Rankin says "Think Jack Reacher fronting Line of Duty" and I can completely see why!
This book is such a heady mix of organised crime versus dogged detectives, with a hefty dose of inside corruption thrown in - it is the very definition of a page turner.
At the start we have Affi, an Albanian teen, who has escaped a trafficking gang and has now settled into a life in remote Scotland, with her foster parents. She's developed into a promising athlete and her former life seems a long way behind her, until she is abducted whilst out on a run.
However, this ill advised action becomes the catalyst for uncovering a huge network of corruption and crack cop DS Max Craigie won't stop until her uncovers the whole stinking mess.
Max has a handy network of his own, a few off grid experts that help unlock digital secrets. I especially loved Barney - a veteran with balls of steel and a fabulous turn of phrase!
The entire investigating team have oodles of charm and the book is written in such an entertaining way that their personalities and the story just crackles and fizzes from start to finish.
My next task is to check out the previous books in the series!
