This is the first of Neil Lancaster’s that I have read, I saw the letter that came with the book that this is 4th of DS Max Craigie and thought whether I had to read it in order to get the character development properly. I started reading it and really thought I must have missed something initially due to not reading the preceding book. However the plot develops so quickly it had my full attention, the conspiracy and intricacies just took me for a giant rollercoaster ride.

I must say the first few nights I didn’t sleep very well after reading few chapters, could be due to the heaviness of the issue (trigger warning: child trafficking, drug mule) as I have 2 young children or it could be unfamiliar bed as I started reading it on holiday.

I think it will help if one is Scottish as well as certain phrase would be funny or one can empathise. I have only been to Scotland once, however I know a few of Scottish colleagues so I like that I could recognise some phrases used.

I have passed this book to my mother in law to read whilst on holiday as I think it is just so good!

I will also now put the rest of the series on my TBR!

Thank you Neil Lancaster, HQ and ReadersFirst for this advanced copy in exchange for honest review.

P/s: there’s also a surprise at the end of the book!
