Firstly, when I started reading this book I didn't realise it was part of a series. Although this didn't detract from my enjoyment of reading it, I did find myself a little muddled at times and would have probably benefitted from reading the first book first!
This book carries on the story of Holcroft Blood, as he returns to England to the court of James II. Blood finds himself getting more deeply embroiled in secret clubs where talk of revolution is rife.
The characters in the book are all very well drawn and the historical background is believable. This was not a book I would normally pick up so I am glad that I have read it and may in the future read the rest of the series (starting at the beginning!).
