From the opening paragraph I was already loving Bob. A child who has just gone to secondary school, struggling with the transition to teenage hood, but with his own challenges as home is a really relatable character. Definitely someone children are the end of primary will really be able to relate to.
The plot line is fantastic and kept me on my toes each time-travelling event. The twists and turns as Bob tries to navigate the present to make sure the future works out are funny and at times unexpected. Bob and his “gang” are great friends, having a laugh, standing up for what is right, and don’t take themselves too seriously. Really perfect role models.
The selfie zombies are a perfect villain in the piece. Up to date and current, with the idea of everyone being glued to devices. Bob and his band finding ways to defeat them opens up relevant, topical discussions for children this age. Totally captivating for a top primary audience as a classroom read or to read alone at home (or with a lucky parent!)
