A decent read but nothing too interesting

Bookshop girl is back and this time we follow Paige and her best friend Holly to a literary festival in Skegton-on-sea.

Unfortunately I didn't warm to the the characters, Paige and Holly, from the first book. They do portray a good female friendship though. The writing has improved since the first book but the storyline is still quite dull and boring. Nothing too entertaining happens. Thankfully, it is a very short read.

It would be good if the book explained the details of the first book, and what happened at Bennets bookshop, so that this can be read as a standalone story. The book also mentions things from the first book without explanation such as the Posers club - which you'll only know from the first book.  Though it does not do this, it does reference back to some characters or events that happened in the first book for fans of the first book.

There were lots of British references which is quite charming and could be quite fun for a younger audience to relate to. There was regular use of abbreviated slang such as LOL or OMG and it could be that the character says these abbreviations but it would have been a better read for an older audience if they were spelt out. The tone of the novel is quite young and I imagine it would be relatable to a younger audience.
