An easy read but just missed the mark

When I see a book set in a bookshop, I'm sold! So when I saw Bookshop Girl and its lovely bright cover and fun synopsis, I was instantly drawn in.

This is the story of Paige Turner (hmmm, actual name) who wants to save Bennetts Bookshop from closing and so she campaigns to have the decision to tear it down reversed.

So, the positives... well, I liked the idea behind it and it was a very easy read.
However, I found it very slow to get going and really wanted more scenes based in the bookshop. For me, it didn't delve deeply enough into the lives of the characters and what the bookshop meant to the small town so consequently I didn't feel fully invested in any of them.

I found the dialogue between the sixteen year olds unrealistic and jarring. It's a while since I was sixteen, however I'm really not sure they pepper every sentence with OMGs, Defos, etc etc.

As I say, I'm a fair bit older than the central characters so maybe this just wasn't for me...?
