As the father of a teenage daughter who loved hanging out at local second-hand bookshop I was keen to read this after the cover already struck a chord. Refreshing too in this modern age of the idolisation of the book from a young, relevant character.
Better (or worse) to come was the opening paragraph which IS my PE hating/excause making daughter.
Written in a snappy adolescent manner I ripped through this in half an hour laughing at least half a dozen times at the recognition of many ills of modern society - chiefly the pending closure of the bookstore.
Paige Turner (groan) is a fiery little thing and I can see young readers carrying her on their shoulders as a badge of honour rallying against the ‘norm’. A YA feminist in the making!
