I love the strong female role model in this book. A fearless young woman is just what younger readers need as part of their experience. I was also pleasantly surprised at the range of vocabulary used; the author manages to maintain interest and excitement without patronising the younger readers. A great way to expand vocabulary naturally without making it a chore.
I did find that the beginning of the book was fairly complex. We are introduced to several characters quickly and although this contextualises Bronte it does feel a little daunting. Also, the rapid explanation of the kingdoms and the rulers adds to this layers of complexity at this early stage of the story.
in contrast to this, Brontë arriving at the school and meeting two of the other central characters is a relief. We come to understand their natures in contrast to each other and thought out this Bronte’s determination and bravery continue to shine through. A great role model for young woman wanting to be knights in a male dominated industry!!
