I didn’t think a book based on sick animals would be so fun to read. Bruce’s observations of 1970s London life, as seen through the filter of pet owners, was so well-observed, it made me laugh and nod in agreement by turn. His grasp of the similarities and differences in culture was described through some unlikely examples, such as the ‘nanny’ at the start.
Self-deprecating, yet clearly skilled at being a vet, Bruce charts his arrival and experiences amongst the well-heeled animal lovers of London n a very engaging way, although I can’t imagine a vet in a velvet suit and sandals!
