1970s London is something that wasn’t in my life time, but it was in my grandparents life time so my grandad could remember this quite clearly. In that sense, this was the perfect book for me to discuss with him and it gave me the opportunity to delve deeper.

Bruce Fogle (we probably know his son a bit better - Ben Fogle off various animal programmes on television) arrives in London as a graduate from the prestigious worlds best veterinary school. His first job at Woodrow and Singleton, in Knightsbridge gave him the opportunity to work with some of the worlds most famous pet owners: Paul McCartney, Duchesses and the like. Most amazingly to me, this opened the door to Harrods own zoo department which for me personally was utterly fascinating.

As we travel through this book we travel through tales of animals in all shapes and sizes. It was this learning here that made him a better vet, rather than what he learnt at school.

An utterly charming book that I wouldn’t have considered before so I am grateful for this opportunity.
