This was an enjoyable read. I found it particularly interesting when Bruce spoke of the way animals were treated by owners and vets in the 1970's compared to how they are treated today. For example, that vets were not taught that animals could feel pain the way we can.

There were many amusing anecdotes throughout the book but I did find the writing a little bit confusing at times as the timeline seemed to jump around rather a lot. My favourite bits were when Bruce looked at the close relationship that owners share with their beloved pets.

From the synopsis I was really looking forward to hearing about the work Bruce did with Harrods but I was disappointed to find this does not feature in the book very often at all. I feel that the promise of this sold the book to me so it was a shame when this was not discussed much at all.

All in all I would give this book 3 stars because I did enjoy much of it even though it did not quite live up to my high expectations.
