It has taken me a long time to pick up and read Call the Vet by Bruce Fogle, mainly because other books have appealed to me more. However, I did eventually begin to read about Bruce Fogle's life as a young vet in 1970s London. I wasn't really sure who Bruce Fogle was but as I read the book, I realised that he was not an ordinary vet. He was a famous vet, due to his wife being the actress, Julie Foster and his son, the writer and broadcaster Ben Fogle.
The story begins with Bruce explaining how difficult it was to understand English idioms, as he was a Canadian and initially struggled to find his feet in the heart of London. The book was a light read but is not a book that I would choose to buy. As I read I was always waiting for something more exciting to happen but alas it never did! I felt that the book jumped from one subject to another and I never really knew who he was talking about. The characters were one dimensional and I felt at the end that I did not really discover how a vet's life was in 1970s London or who Bruce Fogle really is.
