An interesting read about Bruce Fogle’s move from Canada to England and the differences he experienced in this country. As a newly graduated Veterinary Surgeon he moved to England and was shocked to see how out of place he was, and the differences he didn’t expect. Although eventually turning native I enjoyed reading about his initial struggles. I was shocked by the treatment of the animals that occurred during this period (1970s) but there were some great anecdotes and cases highlighted in the book. It was also shocking to read some of the veterinary practises of the time, thankfully they’re a lot better nowadays!
This book also shows some of his personal life, such as his relationship with an actress who would become his wife; and the fact that he is Ben Fogle’s father. If you are interested in animals and vets etc. This would be a great book to read. I found it easy to read, and really flew through the book.
