This was like so many of the medical memoirs I love, but instead of a doctor or nurse, about a vet, obviously :P It had a good mix of detail about the work he's done as a vet and about his personal life. I learnt so much about medicine surrounding animals, about a vets's work in the 70's and how this differs from our attitudes and work towards animals nowadays. It's always a plus for me when I learn something from a book, and this was definitely it. As someone who understands and is interested in medicine, I enjoyed the level of detail that is gone into as it really helped me to understand the procedures that he was talking about and what effect this would have on the animals. However, I can see how if you don't have this kind of background you might struggle with these parts, especially as he talks about pets dying and being seriously ill at times.
