This book is a very readable memoir about life as a young vet in London during the 1970s.
Bruce Fogle arrives from Canada, newly qualified, and after spending two years at London Zoo, starts employment in a prestigious practice which includes Harrods pet department and many celebrities amongst its clientele.
There is sufficient science to make this book of interest to aspiring or practicing vets, as well as rich anecdotes about royals, actors and rock stars to tempt those more interested in celebrity lives.
I learned that veterinary practice was a very new and relatively crude practice in those days with more consideration given to the wishes of the owners that the care of the patients.
Bruce also relates the courtship of his actress wife, Julia Foster, and their life and friends in London theatre land at that time of strikes and turmoil in Britain.
A great present for anyone this Christmas.
