As a committed fan of Jane Austen, I approached this book with caution, as I am wary of books that try to imitate her style, and while this book is modern and contains some adult themes, I was delighted that the author had still managed to capture the wry and sardonic tone of Jane Austen in the lighter passages. Furthermore, I really appreciated the chance to get a further insight into the character of Charlotte, whose thoughts we don't really get to see in Pride and Prejudice. Although Jane Austen seems to criticise Charlotte's choice, the start of this book really helps us understand why Charlotte did what she did, and gives her a chance to defend her actions. I would strongly recommend this book, especially as the author has managed to use a similar style, of helping the reader get inside the character's head, while also adapting the style for a modern audience.
