As a fan of Jane Austen's novels, I also enjoy reading the characters in the various sequels - Pemberley, Longbourn etc
Charlotte is interesting in that although written in the style of Austen, it mentions the unmentionable bits of Austen's novels - sex. miscarriages, contraception etc. Charlotte is planning to challenge the historic problem of male domination and inheritance law. Such a feisty character belongs in the world of suffragettes a hundred years later.
