This opening put me back into Jane Austen's world without laboriously aping her style. It is fresh but not innocent and girlish; it carries the experience of real women. I have no idea where Helen Moffett will take Charlotte's story but I want to come along for the trip back to England in Napoleonic times, as so well evoked by the pretty cover.
