As a big fan of Jane Austen when I read the blurb for this book I was very excited. The books starts some time after the ending of Pride and Prejudice and we aren't told anything about what happens directly after, which would have been nice.
Charlotte seems to be doing okay but suffers a tragedy which brings Elizabeth back into her life. It's sad to read that in this interpretation their friendship was not as close or a genuine as is suggested in Pride and Prejudice or that Elizabeth and Darcy's relationship is not as secure.
I would say this is definitely are more cynical look at Charlotte's life but it does explore the issues with society that Jane Austen often tried to explore. I would read this book as I am interested in finding out more about Charlotte's life but it I think I was hoping it would be a bit more positive and light-hearted.
