I have read all of Austen’s work and Pride and Prejudice is a novel I’ve taught many times. There are many works which are spin offs of Austen’s work. I enjoyed this unusual look at the character of Charlotte married to a less than fascinating Mr Collins.
Charlotte is a practical young woman, who realises marriage for her is a way to at least be mistress of her own domain. However her life with Mr Collins proves to be a success. I would caution however that I doubt Mr Collins could excite the sexual passions he does in the novel.
We meet characters from Pride and a Prejudice. I was interested in this, but found that the writer almost seemed to see her job as having to update us on everyone. That wasn’t needed.
