Reading the continuation of Charlotte's story was not something I had expected but it has been a pleasant surprise. In Pride and Prejudice Charlotte undoubtedly was one of the characters who had raised many questions, in particular regarding her matrimony to Mr Collins. The novel begins a few years after her wedding she is now a mother who has just lost her only son and heir. Now Charlotte finds herself in a similar predicament as Mrs Bennet fretting over the future of her daughters.
In addition, Ann, Lady Catherine's daughter becomes a sympathetic acquaintance as she feels Charlotte and her have something in common, no heir to their fortunes.
Without giving too much of the plot away familiar charcaters from Pride and Prejudice are weaved into the narrative and fans of the original will love this novel.
