I didn't know what to expect from "Charlotte" with it being a sequel of sorts to Pride and Prejudice. I was pleasantly surprised with the story. The writing style felt in keeping with the era and the characters were developed well. The book focuses on Charlotte's life after the death of her son but flashes back to earlier in her life too, which I found gave extra depth to the story. The story has a strong theme of grief surrounding child and baby loss, which is very sad. However, it is also a story of overcoming grief and seeking out new experiences. I had expected a little more focus on Charlotte's mission to secure a future for her two daughters but other than that I was not disappointed. This book took me a while to get through as there is a lot of reading in it. I didn't feel compelled to read it really fast or find myself thinking about the book when I wasn't reading it but I did enjoy reading it.
