I had high hopes when I saw that this book was linked to Pride and Prejudice. Unfortunately, I do not feel this modern retelling lives up to the original source material/ inspiration. I found the plot confusing. I struggled reading this as I just wasn’t fussed about the characters and I didn’t warm to them.
I think the author has done a good job of creating a similar style of writing as Austen’s and other classics of the time. But, I don’t feel this writing style is the easiest to read. Footnotes would have been a useful addition, to give context to old words which are no longer commonly used.
I really like the cover design, this drew me to the book in the first place. The cover is very beautiful.
