Charlotte by Helen Moffett, takes a minor character from Pride and Prejudice and brings her out, fleshing out her personality until she is changed from a figure of pity for her choices in the original book to a fully formed woman with a mind of her own. The dreaded Mr Collins is shown in a kinder light too, alongside other characters that were kept in the background now reimagined in surprising ways as the settings change from the familiar to the brand new. This book will be enjoyable for both new and old readers of Austen, keeping the tone of Pride and Prejudice, revisiting well loved places but infusing it with new blood, new characters and situations, challenges and heartbreaks. A delightful treat.
