A hot chocolate on a cold winter’s day of a book. I love Jane Austin and have read several reimaginings and continuations of her work, this is one of the most accomplished. Moffat interlaces extracts of Austen into her work, giving it a genuine feel, whilst T the same time managing to maintain her own individual voice.

Charlotte, Mrs Collins is a woman of sense and patience. Marrying for convenience with little hope of love due both to her station and apparent plainness she believes she is not worthy of romance. Charlotte is endearing, Sweet personifying the niggling doubt so many women have about their worthiness in the eyes of men. She is eminently sensible and clear headed in other matters, assisting her nearest and dearest immeasurably. These qualities lead to a life of firm friendships and solidity.

However, in Austen there must always be unexpected romance, that tingly loveliness that has us reading and rereading her work years hence, Charlotte does not disappoint on this either.

A joy of a book!
