Initially I was quite impressed with the authors ability to create characters that were brought forward from Pride and Prejudice but still were described with such an originality that it wasn't necessary to read Pride and Prejudice before picking up this book.
As someone who would not read Pride and Prejudice before picking up this book I felt that I wasn't at a disadvantage for not doing so (it definitely helps but it is not essential)

To an extent I even enjoyed the story that was presented, my main issue was that at the writing style was very dated, it reminded me of of the writing style of Pride and Prejudice and other classics and one of the things that entice me to this was there is a reimagining of the classic that would be much easier to understand having been written this year. Due to this I was actually quite disappointed as I found the same struggle reading this as I would reading a typical classic as the writing style is something that I simply struggle to read.

There were many times I debated putting this book down and giving up on reading it however I wanted to see it through to the end having been gifted a copy of this book.
