I'm going to start by saying that I haven't read the prior books so I was understandably a little confused when reading the extract.
I liked the style of writing,although I felt it was possibly aimed at a younger reader than myself, but who doesn't like a tale of magic and intrigue?
Not a lot happened in terms of plot in my opinion but the writer has some interesting themes of magic types already displayed and the characters seems alright.The whole first extract is essentially a 3 way magic fight which was cool but a bit confusing?
Having read this first impression I may have to go hunting for the first in the series and give that book a try but not a lot to go on as a standalone first look.
