Spellslinger is my new favourite fantasy series. It follows Kellen - the classic underdog who exposes the faults in his magical society. Think magicians and outlaws. Think Wild-West with a touch of magic.
Charmcaster reestablishes Kellen as an underdog and outsider. The thing I love most about this series is the characters. There's Reichis the squirrel-cat. Cute as a button but desperate to rip people's throats. There's Ferius, who makes her own rules, and puts down anyone who gets in her way with acerbic wit. It takes a great cast of characters to keep people following through a large series, but that's what has me excited for the next installment.
I'm fascinated to hear about charmcasting, and I want to know who set the Faithful on Kellen's path. If the first two books are anything to go by, my first guess will not be correct.
Excited doesn't do this justice. This series has me in its charm. I'm spellbound.
