Kellen is still on the run with Ferius, now searching out anyone that has been implanted with the obsidian worms that turn them into spies for the mages. This brings them to Gitabria, a country of inventors of wondrous things. At the same time his own shadowblack curse is getting worse, taking him further into darkness.
I'm so glad I got started on this series. This is the third book so far and I have been grabbing the each one as soon as I finished the previous. I love Kellen, he's so down to Earth and self-deprecating. He never seems to realise just how clever he is. His 'business partner' Reichis is a hilarious, insane squirrel-cat who only he can understand. Which is for the best as he pretty much only talks about eating peoples eyeballs. Their growing friendship, which neither would like to admit to, is heart warming.
