I thoroughly enjoyed Charmcaster and I’m thrilled to say that I’m happily able to give it a five star rating. I loved each and every minute of this book. I’m not sure what increased my enjoyment exactly, possibly the way that the characters have ‘wormed’ (not a great choice of word, considering the story, admittedly) their way into my heart, but it could be something else. Regardless of reasons I loved this book though and, so far, it’s definitely my favourite in the series.

Like the two previous books Charmcaster jumps into the action from the very first page. From there on the story is pretty much nonstop. If there’s not a dangerous situation on the page or a cliff-hanger ending in sight, then at the very least, there’s always an interesting conversation to capture the reader’s attention. The plot was full of detail and jam-packed with unexpected twists and turns. I can’t wait to see what happens next with Kellen’s story but, at the very least, I can safely say it will be surprising.

The characters continued to capture my attention, both old and new. Reichis continued to unexpectedly delight me and I loved the addition of Ishak. What I learnt of Ferius’s past was fascinating and an unexpected return of a character from one of the previous stories reshaped an individual completely for me. There were several new characters who kept me enthralled too so I’m certainly looking forward to seeing what happens in the future books of this series.

Overall I definitely recommend this book and am now eagerly awaiting the release of book four to see what happens next with Kellen. Due to the ending – and the tendency for twists and turns in these novels – I can say with some confidence that I have no idea what to expect. Hopefully it’ll be another five star read however with plenty of action from the very first line.
