I enjoyed the first chapters of this book more than expected, seeing as I don't typically go for classic spy novels. I was surprised at the level of factual characters in this novel, from reading the character index at the beginning of the book, something that makes the spy element all the more interesting. I would definitely give this book a go as I enjoy a strong female lead, particularly if it is based on real historical events. Cecile seems like an interesting character, obviously involved in some dangerous plots. I already like the old-time secret agent feel you get from the first chapter when she hides the papers in the lining of her handbag, or her fierceness when contemplating the "unlikeliness" of smoking, putting her ahead of her time as a woman. This seems like the perfect novel to read by a fire with snow outside...
