My heart sank when I started to read this extract, as it opened with a lengthy list of characters, which immediately made me switch off. There are two things I dislike in a book and that is too many characters to keep track of and a list of characters that one has to refer to constantly to remind oneself of who is who. I didn't engage with the book at all whilst reading the first impression, hence the title of this review.
