I do enjoy historical fiction, but this just isn't for me. I felt the characters were hastily drawn and there was just too much going on from the beginning.

When you already know the back story to the main plot, beginning with that, especially in a frenetic fashion just doesn't work for me. We know she is going to get out of this life and death situation and leave France, so there is no investment in the situation.

I also have to confess to finding the upper middle class sleuth or spy a little predictable. I just couldn't suspend my disbelief and get into this. I am sure it will appeal to many. There is no denying the work is well researched and there is a sense of place.
