The cover instantly drew me in, and the blurb sounded exciting. I enjoy reading stories from this time period, but there was just something about the writing style of this one that never quite clicked for me. It felt like something was missing, it didn't quite capture the atmosphere of being in the middle of war torn Europe.
The 3 pages of characters at the beginning was also a bit off putting, like we will need to refer back to it frequently to know who is who, why the need for this? Surely the characters can be introduced as and when we first meet them, no need to list everyone in one go.
