A twisty spy thriller with maybe a few too many characters!

On the whole I did enjoy this book - it's a different take on the spy genre in that the main character is female. A female with attitude in abundance.
I was interested in reading this book because of the setting, Lisbon. This being a city I was due to visit this year and so had done some research on. Lisbon is a major "character" in itself and you really get a feel for what life was like in Portugal during World War II. In many ways it adds to the interest of the tale that it's not in an obvious location (such as France/Germany/Uk).
My main issue was the massive range of characters. These are listed at the beginning of the book and I only gave the list a cursory glance as the sheer number was a bit daunting.
I feel that less characters might have made the story easier to follow in places - I got slightly lost at times.
That said the main characters are engaging and definitely very human - making dubious decisions and showing vulnerability. Perhaps had I given the book more concentration I would have got more reward in return.
I should also mention that I found the Q & A and "tour" of Lisbon at the back of the book very entertaining and informative!
