I rarely give up on a book but I found myself skipping bits in City of Spies which was disappointing as I had looked forward to reading it. I love this genre - WW2, espionage, intrigue, SOE and was initially engaged but I lost my way half way through. The early Paris section was compelling but it was at Lisbon that I drifted away from the plot. Perhaps Elisabeth had one too many identities for me. I pursued it to the end and it picked up somewhat. I would still recommend this book to anyone who loves SOE themes and specifically the work of the female agents of the time. I also found a novel about WW2 Lisbon interesting and a change from being based in France or Germany. I plan to leave it for a while and re-read it again another time as maybe it was me.
