Well this was a surprise!!
I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this book. Initially drawn in by the cover mostly. I do enjoy historical fiction but I hadn’t read a spy style thriller from this time period before.
Elspeth is a great character to follow, she’s is tenacious, strong & fiery for the time period. It was refreshing to have a female spy as so often these have a male lead.
I enjoyed the writing, it kept me hooked & eager to keep reading. A great cast of characters & a plot that is full of drama, twists & intrigue. I did on occasion (but not very often) want the pace to pick up a little but I think that was more my need to know more rather than the book itself!
Overall this is a really enjoyable read and one I’d encourage all thriller, drama or historical fiction readers to give a go.
I’m so glad I picked this one up - I’ll definitely be looking out for more books from this author in the future.
