The female protagonist, Tia, has already lost her mother. She lives separated by air miles from her sole surviving Papi. He lives and works in USA and Tia is living in the country of her birth. Papi is expected home for a visit and Tia has taken time from school (missed a maths test) to surprise him and greet him at the airport. This means Tia is not shielded by any one she knows before learning the tragic news that Papi’s flight has not safely landed.

Tia is orphaned. Will her schooling continue? Father’s job paid for the school fees.

I would love to preview the book and write a review. I love reading books about other cultures.

In truth the dedication in the opening pages grabbed me - being dedicated to the loss of lives from a specific flight. We all see headlines about tragedies but what really becomes of the connected persons like Tia?
