I usually associate verses with poetry classics back from the school days, so when I opened the extract, I was a bit surprised. However, once I got over the initial shock, I was really drawn into the story of Camino and Yahaira. They both seem to be realistic characters and I like how the book is set both in the Dominican Republic and in the States. The theme of the book is also very current -- with so many people now leaving families behind and working abroad, it is not uncommon for people to have children (who might not even know about each other) across continents who, under normal circumstances, might never meet. However, when tragedy strikes like in this book, they might actually find comfort in knowing each other.
