i am a big fan of Elizabeth Acevedo. I loved With the Fire On High and I enjoyed Clap When You Land even more.
Although her books are intended for a younger reader, I think her books will appeal to all (female) readers.
Clap When You Land is a tale of two teenage sisters who have never met, or even know of each others existence, until their father dies in a plane crash when flying from New York, where Yahaira lives with her mother, to the Dominican republic where Camino lives with her aunt.
The tale is told in loose prose with manages to convey more meaning and emotion than properly constructed sentences.
This is a beautiful story about sisters, secrets, loss and forgiveness.
It reminded me of another book I had read recently about bigamy - Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones which I also enjoyed enormously.
I wish I knew a bit more Spanish although I managed to get by with my smattering!
